Ready to Pop

I was pregnant at my wedding–surprise! But it was a kept secret between me and my husband and our parents, oh and one helpful bartender. The drinks kept coming, but to the naked eye I was celebrating in true style with champagne. Sadly, no. I was pretty much sipping on a children’s juice.

And the celebrations continued during my pregnancy–our honeymoon, birthdays, baby showers, the holidays. And doesn’t every celebration need bubbly? We think so. Enter Ready to Pop. We love that our friend Chanel Dror dreamt up this idea and brought it to life. Hallelujah! Finally, a great tasting and beautiful non-alcoholic bubbly. All of our pregnant girl issues solved–well almost. Cheers!

Where did the idea of Ready to Pop come from? Ready to Pop was inspired by my sister, who, at the time, was pregnant with her first child. She bought herself a bottle of non-alcoholic red wine to enjoy at a BYOB restaurant, and when she popped the cork, she was completely disappointed. It tasted awful, and so she sat through the dinner feeling left out of the fun. I had a total lightbulb moment and thought, “Someone should really come up with non-alcoholic wine for pregnant women.”

How did you come up with the name? Were there others you were considering? About a second after I had my lightbulb moment, I followed it up with “The wine could be called Ready to Pop!” I’ve always been a master punner, and fortunately this is one business that allows for all sorts of cute plays-on-words.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve experienced with launching your business? Logistics, logistics, logistics! Selling a product means dealing with printing, packaging, shipping, and everything in between. My husband and I are doing almost everything on our own to keep costs down, which means that the learning curve can be frustrating at times. However, that makes it all the more satisfying when something gets checked off the list!

What have you been most proud of? Just doing it! I can’t tell you how many hair-brained business ideas we’ve entertained over the years, but with each one, the thought of actually pursuing it was too daunting. Taking the leap to start Ready to Pop was the hardest thing — once we did that, everything else fell into place.

What excites you most about Ready to Pop? In my mind, the possibilities for Ready to Pop are endless. We currently offer just non-alcoholic bubbly, but soon we hope to expand into non-alcoholic red, white, and rosé (!!) wines as well to truly satisfy every craving. Our ideas for expansion into retail and hospitality truly keep me up at night — it’s all so exciting!

How do you want Ready to Pop to make women feel? Happy. Delighted. Surprised. Cared for. By gifting a pregnant friend with Ready to Pop or offering it at a dinner party, you’re letting her know that she’s not in it alone, and that others are thinking about her as she goes through these lifestyle changes.

Launching a business and operating it takes a lot of energy and dedication. What motivates and inspires you? Running the business can be difficult at times, but every “win” supercharges me. Every order that comes in, every bit of press, every happy customer is the encouragement I need to keep on keeping on.

Outside of work, how do you relax and fill your cup? Cooking with my husband, laughing with my friends, cuddling with my dog, and diving head first into just about every craft or home improvement project that comes to mind.

At 21, Alex Founded Citizen Generation, a nonprofit dedicated to creating the habit of giving in new and young donors. After five years and raising over $4M for other nonprofits, Alex became a mother and decided to channel her talents into building programming and community for other moms. Alex founded Hello My Tribe in 2016 to bring community and wellness back to motherhood.
