Meet the Mom Behind Rank & Style

hello my tribe,

I am so excited to introduce you to one of the sweetest, talented, most giving people I know: Jamie Chandlee.

Jamie and her husband Blake, along with their three kids Spencer (16), Emerson (3) and Maxwell (1), and her Maltipoo Ellie Mae split their time between Austin and New York City. Jamie is an online shopping addict and a total beauty junkie. As an avid traveler, she is always on the go with less time to search for the very best items in fashion and beauty. Jamie was most recently at Facebook where she helped lead the company’s efforts within the fashion and retail segments while working with top brands and agencies.

In addition to being a mother and philanthropist, Jamie is CEO of Rank & Style. Rank & Style revolutionizes and simplifies how you discover your next favorite fashion, beauty and lifestyle product.

Rank & Style is a new addition to your life. How has life changed since taking this company on?

Life is pretty great! I left an intense job at Facebook in 2013 when I was pregnant with Emerson. I really struggled with my identity and was in a total rut. Being a mom is very fulfilling but I know that I needed another outlet.  I started working on the Rank & Style acquisition about a year ago and haven’t looked back since. I am so fulfilled in all aspects of my life, which allows me to be a better mom and cherish my time with my family even more.

What has surprised you most about motherhood?

Motherhood really teaches you not only about what unconditional love is, but what it looks like in action. I never knew I had the capacity to love so much and so deeply. Having kids has have taught me to be more selfless, not just with my kids but with the people that surround me.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve experienced with becoming a mom?

Mom guilt! “Am I doing enough? Is it OK that I didn’t drop them off at school? Is it bad that we are traveling without our kids?” Ultimately we are better parents when we are happy with ourselves! We have learned to make sure we focus on each other and our needs and not just those of our kids.  They are happy when we are happy.

What are your secrets to balancing your personal life, motherhood, and work?

Good question. I would love to know that secret! I try to carve out specific time each day to focus on three different areas: Work, Charity (I am chairing the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board Gala in April), and Family. It’s a constant give-and-take and I certainly don’t have the perfect balance. It’s something I work on every single day. I think balance is by far the biggest challenge of being a working mom! I think the struggle for more time and balance will always be there, but when I am specific with my intensions for each day then it’s another step forward.

Do you have any favorite products that help you live a more balanced life?

  • Bone broth! I am totally obsessed and have it Every. Single. Day. I can’t live without it.
  • La Mer Creme de la Mer: Definitely worth the investment! Helps this tired mama’s skin.
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo: Always in a hurry so this is my go-to.
  • Cle De Pau Radiant Cream Foundation: Swear by this stuff.
  • The Honest Company Bundles: Love that they have a service that delivers diapers and product straight to my doorstep. I don’t have to think about it and it’s safe and healthy for my kids, too!
  • Happy Baby Pouches: Great for on the go feeding.

What does your morning routine look like?

Jamie: There is never enough time! Blake and I typically wake up before the kids so that we can enjoy our coffee together and catch up. Once the kids are awake it’s all hands on deck for breakfast and getting them dressed for school or their activities. I typically have about five minutes to get dressed so I have my beauty routine down.

Who is your tribe made up of to support you not only being a successful mother, but a successful entrepreneur?

My business partners! I love seeing our team work together to challenge and inspire one another on a daily basis. We sometimes have to step outside our comfort zone as we continue to scale the business. It’s been so rewarding to see us continue to grow while watching our new ideas come to life.

Currently, what are your children’s favorite toys?

My son, Maxwell, is currently obsessed with brooms! Ha! He loves them and you can almost always find him sweeping away around the house. Emerson on the other hand is still into all of her dolls. Always has been. We have way too many to count but give her her dolls and her playhouse and she is good to go for hours!

What was your favorite maternity clothing brand?

HATCH has adorable clothing that don’t feel too “maternity-like!”  You also can’t live without the maternity leggings from ASOS…I still wear them!

Do you have a nanny? How did you find her?

Yes! She is an incredible human with amazing energy! We found her through friends of friends as she was highly recommended. I don’t think I could live without her right now and my kids adore her!

If you could give new moms one piece of advice, what would it be?

No judging! It’s my pet peeve! We are all in this together! I think it’s easy to compare and also judge decisions of other parents. At the end of the day, we are all doing the very best we can and need to continue to support each other regardless of our differences.

Alex founded Hello My Tribe not because she was an expert on motherhood, but because she was a mom who desperately needed support and community. During those tough first months of motherhood, Alex spent day after day reading and learning about motherhood. She learned: 1. She wasn’t alone in her feelings about motherhood. 2. Everything we could have ever dreamt of existed for the baby, but there was a lack of resources for the woman/mother 3. There are many maternal health issues in our country that need attention and need to be addressed. Hello My Tribe was built upon these needs. Previous to launching Hello My Tribe in 2016, Alex was a professional and volunteer fundraiser, raising millions of dollars for non-profit organizations. Alex lives in Austin, TX with her son and two rescue dogs.
