It’s been some time since I introduced myself, especially since gaining thousands of visitors on our new blog and hundreds of new people in our Instagram community, so hello!
I’m Alex, the Founder of Hello My Tribe. Before becoming a mother, I had a thriving career in philanthropy in Austin, TX. My nonprofit kept me very busy both in the office and out in the community. When I was pregnant, I decided to close that chapter and focus on being a mother. I went to 42 weeks, labored at home for days, and eventually had an emergency c-section. My recovery was rough on my mind, body, and spirit.
I also did not have the support system set up that I preach to all mamas today. I truly thought I could handle being a new mom on my own. Oh, how wrong was I. Baby blues set in, then came the postpartum anxiety and depression. I personally never went on an antidepressant or birth control to help with my hormones. My doctor simply prescribed self care tips.
Although I suffered for what feels like way too long, I learned a lot. Through all of this, I came to realize what I needed most. I needed a community and I needed opportunities for self care and to feel like myself again. And if I had these, hopefully things like getting sleep would become a benefit. After spending months researching postpartum depression and talking to as many fellow mamas as possible, I came to learn that I wasn’t alone in my feelings. I saw a solution and decided to move on it.
I took a huge leap of faith, my husband and I invested a significant amount of money, I took out a loan from my parents, and I launched Hello My Tribe. I truly believe in the work that we are doing and the community that we are building. We can get everything we possibly need online, but something is still missing for women and mothers. COMMUNITY. IN. PERSON. And we are making it happen.
It’s been an amazing ride so far. I’ve made many mistakes, changed direction, and learned a lot. Excited for what’s to come. I greatly appreciate your support. If you feel like any other moms out there could benefit from following us on Instagram, reading content on our blog, or visiting our Austin, TX studio, please share Hello My Tribe with them.
Thank you! xoxo, Alex
